Gharials in danger

The Chambal river is the only viable home for the critically endangered fish-eating Gharials, which need clean waters to survive. The Chambal is also home to the Gangetic Dolphins,Indian Skimmers and rare species of turtles. On a recent visit I was able to photograph the rare Red-Crowned Roofed Turtle and the migratory Bar-Headed Goose. The withdrawal of water from the Chambal now agreed upon could seriously endanger this delicate eco-system.
